Listen to the story of how the Irish accent came to Michael…
Michael Malley (aka Michael O’Malley) the Irish-American storyteller speaks of his travels and work in Ireland where he first picked up the Irish brogue. Michael, know as “Mick the Yank,” worked with the homeless in the Cork Simon Community in 1987 in Cork, Ireland. He also traveled to Ireland in 2004 to do background research on the Irish folktales and myths that he tells as a professional storyteller. Michael O’Malley also met with the artist Michael Rowland in Ireland in 2004 as the two collaborated on the book An Irish Tale: Tom Moore and the Seal Woman.
As a “re-storer of story,” Michael shares a great range of stories. Michael is the youngest child of the youngest child of the youngest child of Irish immigrants. As an Irish storyteller, he hopes to honor his ancestors; the old Irish legends, tales, & myths; the Celtic people; and the old Irish storytellers who brought the stories to life.
